In scenes reminiscent of the early days of the coronavirus pandemic, there are supermarket shelves looking empty across England. They are not the result of consumers stockpiling ahead of lockdown, however. It’s the result of workers, including shelve stackers and delivery drivers, getting ‘pinged’ on their phones to self-isolate because of contact with coronavirus cases.
